Is my home insured whilst under contruction?

Generally most Home Insurance Policies exclude damage to your home as a result of construction activities whilst under renovation (see your home insurance policy for details).

This type of insurance is not generally included in a Construction Insurance Policy unless approved by the Insurer.

You will need to specifically request this insurance coverage from an Insurer in order to activate the coverage.
You will be required to provide a sum insured of your existing structure (home). It is very important that you ensure that this amount represents the total replacement and rebuilding cost. Be careful in estimating this amount as most insurance policies include penalties for under insurance.

Construction insurance usually does not extend to cover your contents.
